Metz was an important roman centre. You will discover the cathedral, place d'Armes, place de la Comédie, citadel district, German district, place Saint-Louis, German Gate, the Museums of the Golden Court. The german town was built at the beginning of this century around the central station, masterpiece of the architect Kröger (1905-1908), in a characteristic, contrasting style. The square in front of the station has been remodeled in 1995 with the participation of contemporary designers: Philippe Starck, Foster.. At night, Metz becomes a city with mysterious charm, thanks to the specially studied light-effects on each monument. The stirring, magical stained-glass windows of the gothic cathedral lighted at night. The shimmering colours of the Renaissance windows by Valentin Bousch create an amazing impression.
